Club member profile - Jonathan
We asked our Club members how they started gliding, what they enjoy and have achieved at Devon and Somerset Gliding Club.

| Why did you start gliding? | We used to watch gliders when I was a schoolboy in Yorkshire, but I had no idea how affordable it was. I saw an ad for DSGC's Open Day in 2009, went for a trial lesson, and was hooked. |
| What is your most memorable flight? | Reaching cloudbase on my own about a month after my first solo. |
| What keeps you motivated? | The thought that the next flight might be "the one" - long, high or memorable for some great reason. |
| Does gliding influence other areas of your life? | Gliding has helped my driving too - I am sure I pay more attention and think ahead more since I started gliding lessons. |
| What single word sums up gliding for you? | Unforgettable |
| Why do you like owning your own glider? | I have just bought my first glider, sharing it and the running costs with two friends. This should give me the flexibility of having a plane to fly my first cross-country sometime next year. |
| What do you like about DSGC? | The flying is amazing - but it's great to work in a team too; I don't need to fly much to enjoy the teamwork and atmosphere of working with like-minded people all day on the airfield. |
