6 – 10 July – Course Week

A tricky course week with low cloud in the valley at the beginning of the week.

A lot of very hot heatwave weather, with blue skies and a great soarable day at the end of the week with Dan and Rob Hender  on their afternoon off taking the DG505 up to Lyneham and back.

Mike Rigby sums it up “So that’s the end of a hot but very enjoyable week at Devon & Somerset Gliding Club. My goal, at the beginning of the course, was to renew my Red Card (authority to fly solo), which I managed to do halfway through Day 2. I converted to the Twin Astir, re-soloed on a Junior single-seater and got my aerotow authorisation back so I can launch by being towed behind a powered aircraft. And today, as icing on the cake, I managed to get the Silver Height award by climbing 3,800ft in the fabulous Devon and Somerset skies.❤️ My thanks to James Flory, Stuart Procter and all the course participants and helpers.”

Well done Mike and all the personal achievements of the week.
