At the briefing at 10am, we were advised of an AAT (Area Assigned Task) set over 244km and 3 hours, heading towards the South West again.
Dan was placed fifth on grid, with first launch at 11:55am, which meant he had to fly until the whole grid was launched and the gate was opened. This happened at about 12:50pm.
He headed off fairly soon after the gate was opened, planning to go fairly deep into the first sector, thinking others would get ahead of him as they would turn sooner as the better weather was predicted in the northern sector. The others would then be ahead of him for the final sector to lead the way.
His plan worked fairly well, he followed the streets on the first leg, only taking his first climb at Taunton! Doing similar on the second leg and only having to take further climbs at the top end.
He returned back to Lasham after 3 hours 1 minute 28seconds, optimising the points for the AAT. At a speed of 126kph, LD 130:1 average distance between climbs was 60km! Finishing in 8th place for the day, and now placed 9th overall. Another good day. – Sally Hender
