After weeks of great flyable conditions it looked liked things had reverted back to ‘normal’ as we were greeted at NHL with low cloud. After Pete Smith and Guy Adam’s daily brief there was a delayed start waiting for conditions to improve. This gave us time to rig the Junior LRD after it’s time at the Uffculme Show on Sunday.
Training flights prevailed in the still lowish cloud along with one Junior with some extended flights barely getting a couple of hundred feet about the original launch height which was hampered by the southerly cross and sometimes slight tail wind.
After the lunch break, flying restarted with Mark Layton in FZF finding a thermal off the south ridge before unexpectedly finding some weak wave producing a 2 knot climb up to 2700 feet. After a couple more launches the wind swung more east of south enforcing a change of ends. Flying restarted with a few extended flights in what little lift was available until the list was completed just before 5pm, just in time for the evening group session.
Not sure what the expectation was today with the less than favourable forecast, but for me, it was great! – Mark Layton
