It looked like we might be in for a rather damp start to the day with the forecast predicting rain from around 08:00 through to 13:00. Thankfully we didn’t take any notice of what the Met Office predicted and apart from a couple of very light showers we managed to stay remarkably dry and more importantly keep the flying going!
We started the day with our daily briefing discussing the weather and what we could expect from the conditions. Once the briefing was finished we set up the winch and launch point before taking the K21, Perkoz and Junior down to the launch point and getting ready for the day’s flying.
A reasonable crosswind was blowing which provided a small amount of lift along the ridge and gave us something to work with after getting to the top of the winch. A few flights managed to stay airborne for around 20 minutes from a winch launch which was a pretty good result considering the forecast we’d started the day with!
The K21 and Perkoz both made the most of the conditions while the Junior had no takers and remained on the ground. There was enough lift around at times to give those airborne a chance to enjoy some extra time in the sky rather than heading straight back down.
The day also saw a fantastic achievement for Mike Horwood who completed his SPL assessment and passed!
All in all it turned out to be a very enjoyable day of flying. – Charlie Fabb
