Tues 21 April – Portmoak

After a quiet non-flying day yesterday it was evident that today might need an element of patience – the morning briefing provided some optimism that the grey skies above Portmoak airfield would eventually be replaced by sunny blue skies at some stage during the day.

The local farm shop for morning coffee, followed by Sainsburys (other grocery stores are available in the local area), were therefore the immediate destinations for some of the DSGC group. By lunchtime, it was clear that the grey skies were indeed being replaced by much more encouraging flying conditions, so it was no surprise that on arriving back at the airfield, it could be seen that the private owners here for the week had formed up for local flying together with some of the locals.

Mike Sloggett and Paul Summers took the DG505 for an aerotow, finding the skies busy with gliders all looking to make the most of the afternoon thermals. After just under an hour later, it was the turn of Mark Courtney and Simon Leeson who explored the countryside to the East of the airfield flying past Glenrothes to the coast with the blue seas shining brightly where the sun could get past the clouds.

Mike and Paul were then kindly allowed to borrow an SGC K21 (LOV) for half an hour before flying the glider home.

Another similar day forecast for tomorrow, alarm clocks set…- Mike Sloggett
