Wed 22 April – Portmoak

A day very similar to yesterday – grey skies to start the day with optimism of some thermals from early afternoon onwards.

For our group it was really a question of whether the conditions would provide the opportunity to explore farther afield from Portmoak or that it would be another day of local soaring.

As the day progressed, and with much reviewing of the forecast for tomorrow suggesting another similar day, it was a relatively easy decision that we would be derigging the DG505 later in the day and heading home tomorrow rather than Friday – so getting some ‘last day’ flights became the focus for the afternoon.

Paul Summers and Mike Sloggett took the DG505 off for half an hour with Mark Courtney and Simon Leeson taking the next flight for just over an hour. Mike and Paul then had the last flight of the day following which the DG505 was derigged ahead of an early start in the morning for the long trip down South.

Guy Adams (Open Cirrus CEC) and Ron/Daniel Johns (ASH25 711) also took to the skies during the afternoon.

The weather has made for an enjoyable expedition with 4 days flown out of 5 and, as ever, the warm welcome from The Scottish Gliding Centre and help with getting us into the air has been much appreciated. – Mike Sloggett
