Mon 24 August – Junior Nationals Lasham

At the briefing a 109km racing task triangle was set, much to Dan’s disappointment! (as it would be diffiicult to compete with the water boys). Set up on the grid, this time fifth row for the Juniors, but behind the Wallace section of the Nationals. First launch was delayed a couple of times, finally happening at 12:30pm, Dan going at 12:37pm, (another very efficient launching procedure).

Dan planned to go early, worried the weather wouldn’t last for the task, and true to form, set off at 1:10pm. Racing down the task with 302, Oliver Ramsey hot on his tail. Unfortunately, Oliver was loaded with water, so managed to get past him on the third leg. Dan landed at 2:19pm with an average speed of 108.6km/h.
In his words ‘it was really good.. until it wasn’t! It was a day to just stay up and get back’. Finishing 15th on the day (but only 83 points behind the winner), still in 9th place overall (as the scores were heavily devalued.) – Sally Hender
