The day started off a little overcast and damp, with a low cloud base. The forecast suggested that things would brighten up as the day went on, so we set up the winch and launch point, ran out the cables, and then headed off for our daily briefing.
After the briefing, we took all of the two-seater gliders, along with one Junior, over to the launch point. The instructors then got ready to work their way through the day’s flying list.
By the time the third launch had taken place, the weather had really started to clear up. However, the southerly crosswind was also beginning to increase, making the landings quite sporty!
In the distance to the north, some very promising clouds were starting to form. Unfortunately, the thermal activity over the airfield wasn’t particularly strong, although there was still some lift around. The ridge also provided enough lift to allow us to maintain height for periods of time.
It was great to see the weather improving throughout the day and everyone getting some valuable flying in.- Charlie Fabb
