A decent sunny day forecast, welcome relief after a couple of damp days for the course and brought out a good crowd for the morning briefing. Wind from the west so smiles about operating near the clubhouse but not so much enthusiasm from the pundits with RASP and SkySight not rating the prospects of good thermals.
A new face at the briefing was Charlie Fabb who has just returned after a recent introductory flight and is booked on the next course. Otherwise the usual culprits piling in to keep the launches going and I think by the close of play every one who wanted to fly got to fly!
James Flory did his first tows in BumbleBee which continues to stand in for the club tug – thank you BB syndicate!
Some curious scrappy thermals kept Simon Minson aloft in SM for nearly an hour but it did feel odd. While coasting down from a 3000ft tow we did encounter some gentle wave which I saw when I got home Lasham expert Dave Masson had been predicting. His satellite image from early on on Saturday showed it as present even into Devon. Probably explained the rough little thermals.
I stopped for lunch at 4:00 and was grateful for the help of Martin Woolner, Glenn Turpin and Shaun Dayman for keeping the two-seaters busy.
New man Charlie got flown around by Dan Hender who revelled in the challenging conditions and I was pleased to see Charlie grinning when he left.
Thanks to all who made it work , usual great DSGC team work. – John Pursey
