Wednesday once again brought a morning of low cloud and showers of rain. We brought all of the gliders out for 9:30 and then had a joint club and course briefing. Mark Courtney made the decision that we fly from the Eastern side of the airfield with as a strong westerly wind was forecast. Mike Sloggett took the first flight of the day and was quickly back down after 10 minutes where rain then began to fall again. This then led to an army of juniors to be put at work to get them fit to fly as soon as possible.

After the rain we then continued flying on until lunch. After lunch the thermic conditions improved massively and flights were finally lasting more than 5 minutes. Julian West had the longest flight of the day in LRD with a flight time of 1 hour and 6 minutes.

But around 3 o’clock the wind had started to pickup leading the instructors to put up a yellow flag. The day began to come to and end until Mike and Adam got away in the Perkoz and went to Tiverton and back with everyone on the ground looking awfully jealous that they got away. They then eventually landed and all the gliders and ground vehicles where in the ground for 5:30. A very good day overall with a very poor start due to rain. As always thank you to all the course helpers and people helping on the ground as it made the day a lot smoother. – Adam Smyth
